What’s all this, then? Beginnings of the blog.

Why am I here? What is the purpose of this page? Why are you here?

Notwithstanding the existential undertones, I started this website primarily as a place to record updates to my writing projects, for myself and anyone else who cares to read them.

I could jot these updates down on Word for my personal use, but there’s something alluring about a shiny website with my name on it, as well as the expanded potential for what I could use it for.

What have I done?

I’ve written one book, of around 165,000 words, which I envisage to be part one of a trilogy. After a laborious revision process, I finally rinsed my hands of it in February and sent my beloved document out to a few friends for feedback.

I hope their comments will help me shape my pride and joy into a publishable form, but while I wait for them to read it, I’ve had time to consider what I’ll write next. The second instalment of my planned trilogy would be a logical step, but the options are limitless.

Now, what will I actually be posting on here? (Good question)

I thought a good place to start would be monthly updates. At the start of each month I aim to write an informal post about the kind of things I’ve been working on for the previous 28/30/31 days — inspired by Joe Abercrombie’s progress reports.

In addition, there are two other type of post I envisage, but these are promised in a much more intermittent fashion.

  • Reviews – My purely layman’s take on the latest things I’ve been reading — again, very informal. I read a moderately varied range of stuff, from sci-fi/fantasy, to history, politics and philosophy.
  • Novellas – I think it would be fun to post a short story (maybe ~20,000 words?) or two onto this site, posting it chapter by chapter on a schedule.

Of course, I’ll have to actually write one of these stories, but I have a few ideas bubbling, and they will demand less of me than my *probably too long for a first-time author* other books. I’m hoping to develop my craft with these ones, trying out more of a short-form story with fewer characters.

If any of this interests you, please stay tuned and leave comments. Adoring praise is encouraged. I’ll see you in the next post. Stay safe and remain indoors.
